Attend A December Training Workshop Join a vibrant group of volunteers at a volunteer training in early December in Fargo or Bismarck. If you are interested in advocacy and the work of the state legislature, we'll be conducting a workshop specifically for legislative volunteers. If you want to help people avoid getting scammed, we will train new fraud fighters in a separate, concurrent workshop. Those attending either training will be reimbursed for travel costs, including meals and mileage. You would also be reimbursed for travel expenses you incur as a volunteer. Pastor Ken was in Baltimore at General Synod along with 2700 other involved individuals discussing many resolutions that have been introduced. He is filled with energy and ideas for many messages to come. (Plus, his room faced the ballpark in Baltimore; so he enjoyed that too).

Pat prepared a bulletin supplement for us to help us celebrate a re-dedication of our church building on April 30. Thanks to her for doing that. This is the history she included for us: The previous home of the United Church of Christ (Congregational) was on the corner of 5th street and Second Avenue. That building was in poor condition, lacked parking space, and there was no area available around it for expansion. The present building was not built without controversy. There were objections to the location, as the residential area around it had not been developed, and, of course, the large debt that would be incurred. The downtown lot was sold to the city for $30,000 and the present location, which had been platted as eight lots, was purchased for $12, 865. The cost of the building itself was $164,000. The William Johnson's had left $15,000 to the church for a new building, a membership fund drive brought in another $45,000, and the balance was covered by a mortgage. In spite of dire predictions by some members of the congregation, that mortgage was paid off in 1990. As with any building; if one were to start over, changes would be made. But we can certainly be pleased with the foresight of the committee who made this one handicapped accessible, provided a wide gathering space in the hallway, a lovely sanctuary, and plenty of parking space. The slide presentation being shown today provides a record of some of the people and events that have occurred in this building over that past 50 years.

Our council has convened and will be looking for people to handle various tasks in and around the church. Do you know of a job you would like to do? We can use people to help with deacon duties, communion preparation, cleaning tasks and more. Check with the council members to see what can be found to suit your talents. ************
Did you see how nice the bulletin board looks? Seasonally decorated and some more space on the opposite wall so we can categorize our postings!
